Winder: A Community Rich with History and Fun!

Those relocating to Winder will find that it is a city in Georgia that has an area of 12.9 square miles and is populated by 14,099 residents located in the north east section just outside of metro Atlanta. The city has a beautiful and long history, but to cut it short, it was named after John H. Winder (a railroad builder), and was founded in 1893.

The city is rich with arts and culture as it houses different historic places, one of them is even listed under the National Register of Historic Places. It is known as the county courthouse in Winder. There, one can also find an interesting museum that features jail cells and a hanging tower, The Barrow County Museum.

Another landmark in Winder is the Veterans’ Memorial Park where several veterans who have served the US are being commemorated. It is next to the Community Center where different events and activities can be held such as meetings, parties, and other celebrations. Near the Community Center is the Winder Picnic Pavilion, wherein residents and their guests can hold fun outdoor events such as barbecues, picnics, or wedding parties. There is also a Cultural Arts Center in the city where dining and/or conference activities can be held.

Golf lovers can have their fun in the sun at the Chimney’s Golf Course, a gorgeous golf course where hardwoods, rolling heels, and hardwoods can be found. Not only are they playing, they’re enjoying the scenic view, as well!

Not a fan of golf but love the great outdoors? The Fort Yargo State Park is the perfect venue to camp, hike, swim, or fish! Families in Winder love visiting this park because of all the activities that they can do!

Parents who want to relocate to Winder need not worry because there are a lot of schools for them to choose for, public schools and private schools for Elementary, Middle, High School and even Performance Learning Center can be found in the city. There is also a community college in the vicinity, the Lanier Technical College.

Homes for sale in Winder tend to be very affordable and it’s one of the few cities where someone could commute to Athens and Atlanta for their work.
